The Euro H1 plastic pallets - Forwarding Agent Nagel can’t do without them!
Over 9 years of practical experience speak for themselves. The Euro H1 hygienic pallet is now firmly established as the standard pallet in the meat sector.
This branch has confirmed our hygiene pallet’s practicality and top quality value in all aspects of everyday use. Such a high assessment and our customer satisfaction are the best possible advertisement for this standard pallet..
This pallet was particularly designed according to the EHI specifications and is now absolutely essential for the meat sector, as it meets all branch standard demands and has exceptional advantages. It’s compatible with the E1 and E4 stacking boxes and guarantees high stability in usage at all temperatures inside the Company premises, in refrigerators as well as heated zones, and can stand up to extreme mechanical strain and thermal conditions. In other words this pallet is useable in high racking systems as well as all automatic conveyance and storage systems.
The Euro pallet H1 owes its high practicality in everyday usage to its exceptional durability in high-speed circulation systems. In spite of high demands on wear and tear there are considerably fewer outages than with other plastic or wooden pallets.
The H1 Euro plastic pallets are used both inside Company premises and for dispatch to further processing industries or retail and wholesale businesses. Goods are transported almost exclusively in the pallet-compatible E stacking boxes.
This combination of E-boxes and Euro H1-pallets, with their anti-slip rims for high load security, has proved to be a worth-while solution.
The international foods forwarding agent, Nagel in Versmold, currently uses over 50.000 Euro H1 pallets supplied by the Paul Craemer GmbH in Herzebrock-Clarholz mainly for transporting meats and sausages.
According to Manfred Dolge, head of the central loading equipment department at Germany’s largest food logistics Company, “the pallets are now firmly established and absolutely essential for our Company – we can’t do without them!”
Nagel is Germany’s number one forwarder for temperature-controlled food logistics and besides national and international transport consignments, the Company offers storage, commissioning and packaging as well as additional services.
However at first Nagel was critical of the H1 Euro pallet:
In the early 90’s industry and trade were demanding a standard high-quality pallet to conform to the strict hygiene specifications. Paul Craemer, manufacturer of plastic pallets, was the first to come up with a practical solution in 1993 when he introduced the Euro H1. This pallet was the first to receive recognition by the EHI, the European Institute for Trade, and passed the security tests to obtain the GS symbol and certificate. The Euro H1 soon proved to be the trendsetter on the European branch markets, and the branch standard DIN 55423 was set accordingly in 1997.
As market leader of temperature-controlled foods logistics (e.g. meats, sausages, dairy produce, cheeses, confectionary and delicatessen products) Nagel was obliged to conform to industry and trade regulations. In the beginning, however, the EHI recommendations met with a certain reserve. Nagel was sceptical concerning hygiene as this new pallet type had many sharp (?) edges and apertures and wasn’t at all smooth and rounded.
In contrast to the conventional pallets in circulation the Euro H1 pallet deck is constructed in such a way that any water residue drains off through the apertures. A further advantage is that possible fissures or damage to the deck surface cannot cause condensate formation or transmission of germs. Bacteriologically speaking the Euro H1 is absolutely unproblematic and therefore totally hygienic and easy to clean in customary washing bays.
However it was not only the Euro H1’s hygienic and easy to clean qualities which finally convinced Nagel to use these pallets. This pallet ultimately became the market standard and the profitable solution for the entire logistics chain.
Up to 1993 there had been various pallet types in circulation, and this variety of different pallets had always caused problems at the ramps.
The first multi-purpose pallet designed and produced by Cramer on the basis of EHI regulations has meanwhile set the European standard for pallets in the meat industry.
The Euro H1 circuit begins when a food supplier delivers a batch of empty pallets to a customer. The producer loads the pallets with his products - meat, pre-packed salads, vegetables, fruit, sweets and pastries, snacks, cheeses etc. – for transportation. The goods are packed exclusively in the reliable E-stacking boxes, as Nagel uses hardly any cardboard boxes at all. Meanwhile this Company has over 1 million E-boxes in use. However Craemer’s H1 Europallet is not just dependent on the Craemer E-boxes. This pallet also works excellently with different box systems, showing yet another considerable advantage over other pallets.
On circuit the loaded pallets are then picked up from the producer and delivered either to a distribution centre or directly to the recipient. The forwarding agent then returns the empty pallets and E-boxes to the Company.
The pallets are not used in one branch exclusively; they can be used in the meat branch one day and then in another food sector on the next. Independent of their usage the pallets and E-boxes are thoroughly cleaned after each delivery. The food producer is generally responsible for cleaning the pallets either in a traditional washing bay or by pressure washer.
According to Manfred Dolge practical experience in working with the Euro H1 was the crucial factor to convince this Company of the pallet’s excellent performance.
“The Euro H1 meets all the branch standard requirements and has considerable advantages. Beside being compatible with the E1-4 boxes this pallet guarantees effective usage even under the highest mechanical strain and the most extreme thermal conditions.
The pallets are made of indestructible material, they show no signs of wear and tear and there is zero outage.”
